Video: Flower pots arrive as council clamps down on Castle Green parking
IT seems parking on Taunton's Castle Green is to become a thing of the past after floral barricades were placed on the development.
But this morning (March 6) some drivers were blocked in when council staff used flower pots as barriers, an initiative revealed in last week's County Gazette.
Meanwhile, Wessex Water diggers moved in on the space on Monday.
But authorities insist the seven-week work to replace water mains will not see the area’s iconic stone paving stones dug up.
The work will involve digging a hole on an earmarked site under a deliberately unfinished corner of the development so that new piping can be pulled through the old mains.
Kit Chapman, proprietor of the Castle Hotel, which overlooks Castle Green, said: “It is a ridiculous situation at the moment.
“First of all we have the ridiculous car parking issue and now we have water works clogging up what is supposed to be a landmark area.”
