Bliss nightclub closure forces Wetherspoons to charge entry fee, bosses say
A TOWN centre pub says they have been forced to start charging an entry fee since Bliss nightclub closed.
Clubbers outside The Perkin Warbeck Wetherspoons pub, on East Street, Taunton, were stunned when they were told they had to stump up some cash to get in on Saturday night, a venue that previously never charged.
People vented their anger on Facebook describing the decision to charge an entry fee as ‘disgusting’ and ‘pure greed’.
Wetherspoons confirmed that there will be a £1 charge from 10pm on a Saturday night.
A spokesman added: “As a result of the nightclub [Bliss] closing, the bar is busier than ever, especially on a Saturday night.
“We have increased the number of door staff from six to eight to ensure staff and customers can enjoy a fun and safe evening.
“We appreciate that some people might be disappointed with the entrance fee, but we believe it is fair.”
The Coal Orchard Wetherspoons pub, on Bridge Street, is not affected.
Bliss nightclub closed in January this year.
Do you think the pub is right to make people pay to get in on busy Saturday nights or are they cashing in on Bliss nightclub closing? Let us know.

£1 or £2 is nothing really, I was paying more than in the 90's but was £1.00 a pint back then.
In some respects it is 50/50 on if this is greedy or not. In respects you would not just have to pay for more door staff, but I would imagine that you would have to pay for more bar staff as well to be on duty.
Still glad I am of a generation who done all of their clubbing at the right age, rather than being sad men and women in their 40's plus trying to act like teenagers again.
