UPDATE - Fire crews from across Somerset tackling large thatch roof blaze near Ilminster

 

A THATCH roof fire being dealt with by firefighters from across Somerset at Donyatt, near Ilminster, has now been put out.

A total of eight fire crews had been battling the blaze since shortly before 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

The fire was confined to the thatch roof of the building, of which 30% was damaged by fire and 40% by smoke and water.

No one was injured in the incident and the British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Services Team attended to provide assistance to affected residents.

Fire crews will remain in attendance for a while with three appliances removing thatch and damping down hot spots. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
