Blind man 'sick through fear' after assault in Taunton
9:02am Friday 1st March 2013 in News By Nick Wakefield
A BLIND man was 'sick through fear' after being assaulted while walking home in Taunton.
The incident occurred shortly after 1pm on Tuesday (February 26) as the victim, who is in his 30s, was walking along South Road.
He was approached on the corner of Holway Avenue by a male and female, who pushed him twice in the chest. He ran away down Holway Avenue where he believes he knocked into someone. While making his escape the victim stopped to be sick through fear as a result of the assault.
The victim has only 2% vision and the only description he could give of his attackers is that they were male and female.
An investigation is underway and officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw two people acting suspiciously in the area at the time.
PC Nicholas Cooke, who is investigating the incident, said: "This was an attack on a man who had sight problems and was not able to defend himself. He was pushed twice in the chest but it must have been a frightful experience as he had no idea what was coming next. The victim ran away and bumped into someone as he went. I am particularly keen to speak to that person.
"I ask the two people involved to examine their conscience and contact the police to help our investigation. I am determined to pursue all lines of enquiry available to me to identify those people and bring them to justice."
To help police, contact PC Cooke on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
