STAFF at a care home were delighted after passing a surprise inspection with flying colours.

Beaufort House, in Rectory Road, Burnham, which looks after 30 elderly people, was inspected by the Care Quality Commission in January and the result has now been announced.

The CQC said the home, which is owned by the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, was meeting all five of the standards checked: consent to care and treatment; care and welfare; cleanliness and infection control; staffing; and assessing and monitoring quality of service.

One of the residents told inspectors: “Everything is wonderfully clean and it's like a five-star hotel here.”

Manager Susan Luck said: “Our 40 staff work incredibly hard to ensure Beaufort House delivers excellent care, cleanliness and good food.

“We strive to create a warm, inclusive home, a place where people feel safe and have someone to chat with.”

She added: “It saddens me tremendously to read all the bad news about care without balancing it out with good news.

“People choosing a home should know that there are good homes, working very hard to deliver excellent standards in a warm, caring environment.”
