A HAT signed by a sports celebrity was one of the prizes up for grabs at a fundraising event for the Somerset Rebels speedway team.

The ‘Scrumpy and Western’ fundraising night, hosted by the Somerset Rebels at the Oaktree, raised £1,300 towards the club’s new air fence.

The night’s entertainment included the auction of a hat signed by Formula 1 driver Jenson Button.

It raised £220, but when Oaktree owner Bill Hancock found out he was the winner he put it back up for auction and it raised an extra £130.

A crowd of sports fans attended the event, which included music from covers band Combyne ‘Arvester, who play songs by top artists in the style of Adge Cutler and the Wurzels, and a disco.

Organiser Debbie Hancock thanked Rebels supporter Winston Hand for donating the hat, as well as the band and DJ.

The Oaktree hopes to raise £30,000 for the air fence so it can host larger events in the future.
