Surprised there's no mention of all the ANPR cameras going up soon, ctsy of EDF

ANPR cameras! where are they to be sited and what for?

Samej1 says...

Between the M5 north and south junctions and Hinkley Point - all designed to track the deliveries to site and make sure the 'right' routes are being used.

Apparently all non-HPC traffic details will be deleted and they won't be used as speed checking devices!

RustyKnight says...

That's to track deliveries to a site of a power station that doesn't have planning permission yet!

But the preliminary works do :)

I'm still waiting for the announcement to be made ,as to exactly What & Where the EDF Highway Improvements are, more important, when the work is going to Start !!

So don't go into Town with a car by the Cornhill, as they are closing it on 4th February, on our one way system, up the High St. In Bridgwater. So one presumes no Bus Services there either, as they cannot go up Little St Mary Street.

Also reports on SCC website between 3/6 and 27/9 (13 weeks !!)construction of roundabouts at Bower Lane / Whitfield Rd junction and A39/Whitfield Road Jtn, with unrestricted traffic between 7.30 and 9.30 and 15.30 and 18.30

Perhaps they can re-surface the NDR which got re-surfaced only 6 months ago. What a total waste of money and time that was!
I also read that SCC are making huge cuts to re surfacing work ( all down to this pathetic government and there ideology). So in 5 years time when the roads are in a far worse state than now, it will cost twice as much to put them right.
Great thinking by our (so called) leaders!

When are the decision makers at Somerset Highways going to realise that the method of tar and gravel is inappropriate for use? As above, the NDR was resurfaced last year and already it looks like the surface of the moon.

The amount of main arterial routes thorugh the area that were subject to this abuse over the last 5 years has meant they all need to be done again NOW.

And surprise, there's no money to do it. Yet I BET (what little left I have) my council tax will go up this year.

I know you think that I only post for my own Glorification, but, as this is not correct, I will continue to Lobby SCC Highways, over the ack of appropriate Tar Macadam road surfaces that are not being repaired to a satisfactory standard. As you say spray Tar and Grit topping, just is not a Proper Job.!!
But, Cllr Harvey Siggs says that he is doing this remedy, as does other Districts. Funny that Taunton, does'nt have grit repairs, which fail after a short period, looks fine for a couple of months. He is yet to establish, what the actual annual Highway maintenance SCC Budget is in £££ Thousands, with the Breakdown of Districts Roads Network. does this include A Roads, Trunk Rds, and Motorways throu- out our County??
We also now have been allocated a £4 Million Pothole extra Funding from Central Govnment, I see the work is well underway in Taunton this week, we are having yet more holes dug, and traffic Holdups, today, has been Horrendous, the Traffic lights on St John St, scheduled for another 5 weeks. If only, I could believe that this work, is going to make them more efficient, for the Motorist....! I doubt it, as you know that they are not there to aid the motorist, no I hear you say ?
They traffic lights are there to enable pedestrians to cross. But obviously, this is a fallacy, as most pest rains and cyclists, push the Button to cross, don't wait and cross without concern to the cars and Lorries approaching.

WOW! Just Wow!
That's a different attitude to last week's false sympathy.....
"pest rains"? Really?
I'm sure Mr Good would appreciate you calling him that.
Perhaps you can ask him when he comes to.....
And you say you're a councillor?
Are you currently a serving councillor?

True, but so does most of Bridgwater :-)

On a serious note traffic is a nightmare, could do with a few compulsory purchase orders, some road widening and building. Homberg way should also be the A39 to Minehead and traffic signposted as such.

Equal shares of road works for Bridgwater would be nice , Taunton has new roads all over the place we are lucky if a pothole is filled in why the imbalance?

Grisleyreg agree with you and potholes yes, I reported several in the week. The response is unbeliverable, the council admit there are 3 bad pot holes as I said near Horsey Lane Junction going from Street to Bridgwater before Mole Valley. They are all in a row on the left but they cannot repair them because they are not a certain depth yet, they have to wait until they get worse before they will repair!! What a joke, surely the idea is to fix them before they get bad and before someone loses a wheel cap or a cyclist gets thrown off their bike. The chap who left me a voicemail also said he was sorry to say how crazy this was and laughed as well adding there was nothing he could do until they get worse. Well I don't find it funny, in the week I lost a wheel hub and the cost for me to get it replaced is £48 from a Peugeot Garage. I cannot prove it was this pot hole but I know it was one of the Potholes on a certain night and think it was the ones outside the Olive Mill that they have finally filled in after I complained. I give up with this Country I am see no point in paying £48 for a Peugeot one that I may lose again so going for a complete non standard set with ties at £20. Rip of Britain.

That one outside the Olive Mill was a dusey!
Right over the brow of the hill so you don't see it until it's way too late.
Perhaps go out at night with a shovel, and make the ones by Horsey lane "repairworthy"......

No this is the shape of SCC, not responding to questions asked of them, as to what and when will roadworks be carried out in Bridgwater in respect of Highway work to be carried out for the EDF Traffic Highway improvement Mitigation Measures. !!
How many months have I been asking for info, so we the residents can plan our journeys to work, my wife was 25 Mins late getting from Somerville Way to Brainwave, last week on morning, multiply that by how many thousand, who were also delayed!!
I have asked the Traffic Engineers @ the roadside, if they can set the Timings of the Temp Lights differently, with a negative response, why should they care, it's up to us the residents to contact SCC Highways Dept @ Dunball, to vent our feelings.
For many years now, It has been my belief that SCC@ Taunton want Bridgwater, snarled up, nose to tail, with 30 min delays from J 23 & J24 into Town.
Thus making it seem, that New Industries can expect this as the norm !!!See Somerset CC Website for Telephone and email details.
Contact Chris Betty Highways SCC, @ Dunball in fairness, he's a good guy, but he's the Contact there. The Portfolio Holder, is Cllr Harvey Siggs, he's the Man to address your complaints to...The more Letters e.mail then he might actually respond, he's great at passing it of his shoulders to the Highways Team. !!
I've been raising this issue for more than 18 months, with the soon to be announced in weeks of the Planning Inspectorates Report for the Go Ahead for EDF Hinkley C, then the Traffic Nightmare begins, 600- 800 HGV traffic Movements through Bridgwater, plus, 24/7 Bus Transportation of Workers to & fro the Site, with Un- numbered sub Contractors Vans travelling to and from the Hinkley C building site, for the next 10 Years.
That's why we Campaigned for the Bridgwater By- Pass, so vigorously. While the rest of you did nothing, apart from those of you that signed the By-Pass Petitions, and attended the Parish Council meetings. For you , I Thankyou for at least trying.
Regards David Preece.
Ps. Today, I have received an email from the Bridgwater Editor, Himself after months of non response, an email I sent today, must finally have got through to his Desk !!!! Finally, not via his waste paper bin or delete button. We can only hope, for an outcome shortly .....

Well, to you it would obviously not be difficult! However, previously for 2 consecutive 4 year Periods, that's 8 years to you, we the Conservative Candidates, beat the Labour Councillors, with the exception of the recently departed Cllr Brian Gillard, who was a gentleman, as I've recently said in posts, who was elected as myself and Mike Cresswell, David Hall all Conservative Cllrs for Bower Ward.
With the Labour Boundary changes @ the last election, the demographics of the Constituents were moved to Completely alter the area, that the old Ward covered, Dunwear, Bridgwater Without, Bower, Silver Springs. Eastern Ave.
The new Ward was comprised of- Westonzoyland Rd, half of Sydenham to the Shops, Somerset Rd Estate, and Clarks Estate.
So, even you should be able to see WHY, !! As was the same for all the other Wards that were Changed @ the last Election to benefit your Labour Mates........The Truth Stands out like a sore thumb!!!
I actually enjoy, my life again without the restraints of being an Elected Cllr, so no more being reported to the Council Standards Board, falsely. No more having to listen to the Labour Cllrs Whinging @ Council Meetings.
Off course, you will come back with a startling response, I cannot wait !,
Blue -Owl.
Why don't you stand for the next District Elections, as you can't do any worse than the Labour Councillors elected now, we never see them, on the Ward. They Hav'nt even managed to get the Bench seating on the Ward that we Financed on the Council, to be sited on the Grass bank in front of the Dunwear House Residents, on wye Rd. we passed it, allocated the monies, they have not even been able to get it placed.. Despite my enquiries of Alan Hurford the BTC Clerk.
I bet they will all be @ the Opening of the New Pool in March, when it opens.
After, campaigning with Bridgwater Forward ( Backward). Against it.

Pass your views to Mercury editor, direct, as the Mercury always likes to take on a Campaign, " It was us that Done It " front Page Headlines, well in this case come on, I ask the Editor to get behind this Campaign, to make our roads 'Fit 4 Purpose in Bridgwater '
