Pedestrian hit by car in Taunton Road (January 28)
ANOTHER person was hit by a car in Bridgwater last night (January 28).
Motorists reported being diverted by police after a collision on Taunton Road in which a pedestrian was hit by a car around 7.10pm.
A police spokesman said: “The incident happened outside the BP garage on Taunton Road.
“No one was injured and vehicles were diverted.”
The incident comes after the Mercury reported popular Bridgwater man Tony Good, 68, suffered serious injuries after a collision with a lorry on Friday (January 25).

NOT commenting on this incident but an observation in general, these lights seem to be a magnet to lemming pedestrians at times - follow the green cross code everyone!

A lot of pedestrians coming from the Wills Road direction do not go up to the Zebra crossing as it is a 100m diversion.
The Zebra is also badly lit and I have seen numerous occasions when people have been waiting to cross and vehicles just ignore them and drive on through!
Why they never insisted on lights for the Wills Road junction when it was built I will never know, there is hundreds of houses down that road and regularly queued up in the morning waiting to get out which has a knock on effect on Taunton Road.

Makes no sense to me!
I do think another crossing point is required by Somerset Bridge/BP garage as I stated above particularly as Stockmoor has been developed since the road network was last changed too.
If coming from Stockmoor village and wishing to cross to the bus stop, BP garage or Somerset Bridge Medical Centre etc there is a pedestrian island by the roundabout but this is not ideal as you have to look out for vehicles flying round the roundabout heading into Bridgwater and 2 lanes in the other direction approaching the roundabout.
Installing another island futher up would remove the conflict from the roundabout. I have never liked crossings on roundabouts (Cross Rifles is a prime example).
On the subject of Stockmoor, I can't believe the developers were never asked to install a path to link to the bus stop on the A38 opposite the Bathroom place. Currently you have to negotiate sodden ground and mud, then climb a barbed wire fence to get to the bus stop or walk through a gap in the fence, again over sodden ground and then up the overgrown verge or on the edge of a national speed limit road.
Hardly promoting sustainable travel choice and encouraging use of public transport. A bus shelter would have been useful too!
