THE fixtures secretary of the Taunton and District Saturday Football League is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a lorry.

Tony Good, 68, was on foot when he was by the vehicle in his hometown of Bridgwater on Friday morning.

He was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol with two broken legs.

His wife Rita said: “He is in an induced sleep and the doctors are just waiting for him to wake up naturally.

“Both his legs are in plaster; they are both fractured.

“He had bleeding on the head but that seems to be getting better.

“It only happened on Friday and it’s very early days, but he is going in the right direction.”

Roger Palmer, secretary of Bridgwater Town Football Club, said: “The thoughts of everybody at Bridgwater Town are with Tony and his family.

“He is a very easy guy to get on with and dedicated to his job.

“He lives, eats and sleeps the Taunton and District Football League.”

A statement on the league website says: “I'm sure we all wish Tony a swift and full recovery.”
