The Clink crash victim is football league official Tony Good

FRIENDS and family of a well-known Bridgwater man who is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a lorry have spoken of their shock.

Tony Good, 68, was on foot when he was hit by the vehicle at the junction of East Quay and The Clink on Friday morning.

He was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol with two broken legs.

Tony is the fixtures secretary of the Taunton and District Saturday Football League, and has also been involved for many years with the Bridgwater Pantomime Society, with his wife Rita.

Speaking to the Mercury this morning, Rita said: “He is in an induced sleep and the doctors are just waiting for him to wake up naturally.

“Both his legs are in plaster; they are both fractured.

“He had bleeding on the head but that seems to be getting better.

“It only happened on Friday and it’s very early days, but he is going in the right direction.”

Rita said her husband had been walking to the East Quay Medical Centre for an appointment when the accident happened.

She said: “I’d driven to pick him up but after waiting at the surgery for a while, I asked and they said he had never checked in.

“I tried his mobile but it just kept ringing. Eventually, a police officer answered, which was not something you expect to happen.

“I’d actually passed the accident in my car earlier, and been diverted, but it didn’t clock.

“We’ve heard lots of different things about what may have happened but we just don’t know yet.”

Roger Palmer, secretary of Bridgwater Town Football Club, who speaks to Tony regularly on football business, had also passed the accident scene.

“It was a bit of a shock. You just don’t think it will be somebody you know.

“The thoughts of everybody at Bridgwater Town FC are with Tony and his family.

“He is a very easy guy to get on with and dedicated to his job.

“He lives, eats and sleeps the Taunton and District Football League.”
