Crossways Inn in West Huntspill wins Somerset CAMRA pub of the year prize
PROUD staff at a family-run pub near Burnham are celebrating after it was named Somerset CAMRA Pub of the Year 2013.
The Crossways Inn, in West Huntspill, is due to receive the award in February.
The pub is run by general manager Shane Wallace, his wife Jaime Wallace, who does the accounts, and Jaime's brother Steve Dean, who is the bar manager.
Steve told the Weekly News: “We're very proud to have won the award and we are now hoping that we do well in the regional stage of the competition.
“We took over the pub a few years ago and we came in at the deep end.
“I'd never even tried real ale before, and we had to learn the trade very quickly.
“But we're very lucky in that we've inherited a great pub in the heart of the community, with a great group of locals and staff.”
Steve said his father, Dave Dean, although not involved in the day-to-day running of the pub, has provided financial backing for several years.
He added: “I'm also supported by my fantastic assistant managers, Luke Hester and Jasmin Leach.”
The pub's best selling real ales include Exmoor Gold and RCH Double Header.
