FORMER Wadham School student Sophie Draper – now in her first year at Cambridge University – is going on the run later this month in the name of charity.

Sophie, 18, who was at Wadham’s presentation evening last week, will be taking part in a sponsored charity hitch-hiking Jailbreak event with her friend, Dan Safka.

“We will be given 36 hours to get as far away from Cambridge as possible with no money – apart from the donations we collect along the way,” said Sophie.

They have been set a minimum target of £250 but Sophie said they were hoping to ‘absolutely smash’ that amount. They have promised they will ‘kiss a cow’ once they get to £128!

All money raised from the Jailbreak will be divided between ten charities backed by Cambridge University , including Macmillan, NSPCC, the Air Ambulance, WaterAid and the British Heart Foundation.

Sophie was back in Crewkerne over the Christmas season and worked at Waitrose to earn some much-needed cash to support her studies.

The talented student received two top awards at last week’s presentation evening at Wadham – the Chalmers Award for maths and the Old Ilminsterian Cup for outstanding academic achievement.
