Bursary up for grabs

THE Neroche Decorative and Fine Arts Society is again offering a bursary to young people in South Somerset who are active in the fields of painting, drawing, textiles, decorative glass or metalwork, pottery or any other medium, such as music, dance or performance arts.

The aim is to help students further their studies and/or work experience during the academic year 2013-2014.

A Neroche DFAS said: “The bursary this year is £500 and may be awarded to an individual or a group. The student who received our last award says she has found it very helpful as she needed extra money to help pay transport costs involved in college interviews and auditions.

“Any young person under the age of 21 who lives in Chard, Crewkerne, Ilminster, Yeovil or any of the surrounding villages, and who plans to further their studies or follow a car-eer in the arts, can apply for this bursary.”

Candidates who are shortlisted will be invited to interview in April and asked to demonstrate their skills and say how they would use the bursary.

A portfolio of work, where appropriate, may be submitted and a letter from someone responsible for your art training would be expected.

An application form and guidance notes can be obtained from Robert Hartley on 01460-55843 or robert1600 @lineone.net The closing date for applications is March 31, 2013.
