Help for Sedgemoor job hunters
A NEW programme is being launched this month to help people looking for work land a job.
Sedgemoor District Council will hold a series of ‘You’re H.I.R.E.D’ workshops at Bridgwater Library from January 14.
The scheme is aimed at preparing people for employment by having them work on a real task.
You’re H.I.R.E.D (Helping Individuals Reach Employment Destinations) uses the idea of TV’s ‘The Apprentice’ and allows candidates to work as a team, apply for a job and complete a CV.
Laura Fowler, community outreach worker, is being backed by funding from EDF Energy in her role of using the programme to support people in finding work.
She said: “We have come up with a task for the candidates, which is to put on a charity event at the end of the 12-week programme.
“We already have the support of EDF which has offered follow-up help for the candidates and of Bridgwater College and the Library but we are looking to other local businesses to come forward and help by giving mock interviews or talks on the value of customer service.”
The workshops have been organised at two different times.
Limited spaces are available – please contact Laura on 01278-435227.
