Police on Hinkley Point beat Police on Hinkley Point beat

A POLICE beat team has been chosen to support people who live near Hinkley Point and respond to any issues relating to building work at the site.

West Somerset Council granted permission for preliminary works at Hinkley Point C in anticipation that permission for the main build will be granted in March 2013.

Police have agreed with developer EDF Energy to appoint a Hinkley Point beat team for the duration of the project.

A police spokesman said: “This beat team will not be funded by the taxpayer and will be in addition to the regular police resources in the area. The first of these dedicated officers are Sergeant Steve Crago and PCSO Sue Marks.”

The team have been tackling speeding through Cannington since May, reducing speeding traffic from 9.8% to 1.5%.
