Tonia to start the action

THIS year’s Ilminster Lions Charity 10k race on Sunday (Nov 4) will be started by Olympic torchbearer Tonia White.

Tonia, of Taunton, was one of the torchbearers when the Olympic Flame came through Ilminster in May this year. She was nominated to run with the torch for her commitment to the environment and community.

“I am looking forward to coming back to Ilminster,” she said. “I really enjoyed my first visit back in May and the great reception we torch bearers got from the local community. I am delighted to help Ilminster Lions with their race.”

Lions president Peter Marshall said that everyone was welcome to enter and confirmed that people could enter on the day itself.

The maximum number of entries allowed is 400 so there is still room for more.

Entry forms can be downloaded from the Lions web site, www.ilminsterlionsclub.co.uk. The race is open to men and women from aged 16 to 60 plus. Entry fees for Affiliated Club Members are £8, and for unaffiliated £10 with a £1.00 surcharge applying to all entries on the day.

From experience Peter recommends allowing a minimum of 45 minutes for registering, getting changed, warming up and then getting to the starting line before 10.30am.
