CAMPAIGNERS will learn within days whether their fight to “spare the countryside near Burnham and Highbridge from being ruined forever” has paid off.

The No Moor Pylons group has vowed to keep on campaigning if National Grid goes against its wishes and decides on a route of overhead pylons to connect its substation at Avonmouth with the proposed Hinkley C nuclear station.

National Grid will announce its draft Hinkley C to Avonmouth connection route, which includes parts of East Huntspill and Woolavington, on Tuesday (November 6).

Campaigners feel overhead pylons would spoil the countryside for future generations and threaten tourism. They want underground cables to cover the whole route instead.
