A FUNDRAISING pensioner has abseiled Cheddar Gorge for her 75th birthday in aid of two charities.
Maggie Roberts, from West Huntspill, embarked on the challenge to raise a target of £700 to be split between the Alzheimer’s Society and Epilepsy Action.
But she beat her target by raising £800 herself and £1150 in total with support from Barclays bank.
She said: “I was so lucky to have fabulous weather and my family came down from London to join me.
“The worst part was the climb up a muddy slope to the top. I had to haul myself up with a rope, which was not easy.
“The actual abseil was wonderful and fairly easy and only took about ten minutes, with cheers by a number of people and family below.”
The pensioner, who is a keen fundraiser, is a bid of a daredevil and in the past she has walked along the wing of a plane in mid flight and done two tandem skydives.
