WEST Somerset Community College has celebrated the successful end of a five-year campaign to become a designated Fairtrade School.

Principal Gaynor Comber presented the Interact Club – a joint venture between students and Minehead Rotary Club – with their certificate.

The college has not looked back since a small group of students decided to champion the benefits of Fairtrade in 2007 and Fairtrade products are sold in the refectory and used throughout the college.

The college has also established a partnership with Mabale Tea, a Fairtrade co-operative in Uganda, through which an educational exchange with the secondary school there is thriving.
