Folks need to know it will not be a steam train which the picture and caption at the head of this article might imply. Maybe the editor could change the picture? Try http://www.wsr.org.u k/cgi-bin/galleri.cg i?h=Snapshot&p=2

I accept there are cheaper advance purchase fares on the Trains but these are limited and at most reduce the rail fare by 50% to about £10.

A minor correction. The last time I used the bus from Taunton to Minehead I paid £6.15 but stiill it seems like a very good deal.

The equivalent fare with Webberbus is even cheaper, and of course those with a Concessionary Pass pay nothing.
Considering that an average adult day return fare from Taunton to Bath is about £20, and the single bus fare Minehead to Taunton as about £9 (£18 return?), £35 from Minehead is not that bad. Travelling by normal public transport, changing at Taunton and for most trains at Bristol Temple Meads, the total fare would be about £38.
I accept there are cheaper advance purchase fares on the Trains but these are limited and at most reduce the rail fare by 50% to about £10.
A far better alternative would be to use the Berrys Coaches shopper coach that runs every Saturday from Taunton and costs about £8.

However, considering that the through is what it says, all stations Minehead-Bishops Lydeard to Bristol and Bath without a change, it is a wonderful chance to visit either place without the hassle of a change.
And just to remind everyone that the train is operated by FGW. WSR rolling stock, as Steve Edge says, is not allowed on to Network Rail tracks. I therefore assume that the fare is set so that the operator (FGW) does not run the train at a loss.
