A PARISH councillor from Highbridge has received an award for recognition of her time spent helping others.

Jenny Salway, 80, from Basonbridge, received the Chairman Award for Services to the Community in Sedgemoor from Somerset County Council Chairman John Edney.

She has been a parish councillor for 35 years, is a member of The British Legion and Royal Air Force Association, a pre-school governor, governor at East Huntspill School, member of the Church Hall Committee and Harvest Home Committee.

As a member of the WI, she helped raise funds to purchase land and erect a village hall, and purchase land for a village playing field.
