Bateman shows champion form at Brean

BREAN's club champion Steve Bateman took the honours in Division One of the Monthly Stableford on May 10.

His score of 41 points pushed Murray Parsons back into second place. In Division Two, Tony Roper was victorious with 42 points, which earned him a handicap reduction to 16.

Three players scored more than 40 points in Division Three, led by Simon Copp (43). The others were Tony Burrow and Kevin Boyer on 42 and 41 respectively. Jenny Dodd won the ladies' event from Tina Bateman.

In glorious weather on May 11, the annual Pros' Day had a new format. It proved to be the downfall of one team as they didn't read the rules correctly!

The Pros' team, comprising Jordan Jones, Mike Porter, senior professional Andrew March and director of golf David Haines returned the best score of the day, a gross 63.

This meant that the Cleveland XLS drivers on offer to any one who beat them went unclaimed. The best members' score was by Tony Higgins, Craig Higgins, Kev Phelan and Rich Coulson.

In addition to the midweek stableford, Brean have now introduced a Friday event after requests from members. Wednesday's, on May 7, was won by that man Tony Roper, with 35 points, and Friday's by Tony Higgins on a superb 44 points.

Congratulationsgo to Brean Ladies' B team who won the Pro-Celebrity-Am last Tuesday. Lady captain Debbie Windmill, Jenny Dodd and Irene Trumper, along with their "celebrity" Chris Payne, scored 127 to beat four other teams on countback.

Trumper's chip and putt on the last for a par proved decisive as they relegated The Holiday Resort Unity into second place.
