Doyle leads Rebels to impressive away victory

Premier League: Redcar Bears 39, Somerset Sharp Rebels 54

AUSSIE star Jason Doyle stormed to a five-ride full maximum as the Rebels won at Redcar on Thursday night to go second in the table.

Doyle was in unstoppable form, right from heat one, when he and partner Jordan Frampton relegated the Bears' former world champion Gary Havelock to third place.

Brent Werner took the first of his three victories in the reserves' race and after Doyle and Frampton had combined again for another 5-1 in heat five, Somerset held a ten-point lead.

Victory by Havelock on a tactical ride in the next cut the deficit, then Josh Auty and Ty Proctor scored a home 4-2, making the Rebels' lead just seven.

It was down to three when James Grieves and Dan Giffard raced to a Redcar 5-1 against Simon Walker and Stephan Katt in heat nine.

But then the Rebels' superior gating wrested back control of the match, with successive 5-1s in heats ten (Kramer, Kroeger) and 11 (Doyle, Frampton). They also provided the winners of the last three races in Doyle (twice) and Werner as they completed a storming victory.

It was the Rebels' first-ever win at the Teesside Motorsports Park and everyone contributed, with Werner (paid 11), Kramer (9) and Frampton (paid 11) backing up Doyle particularly well.

The three points put them second in the table, just behind leaders Berwick.

Scores: Redcar 39 (G Havelock 5r 12, C Kerr r/r, J Grieves 5r 10, D Giffard 5r 2+1, T Proctor 6r 9+1, A Bugeja 4r 0, J Auty 6r 6), Somerset 54 (J Doyle 5r 15, J Frampton 5r 8+3, E Kramer 4r 9, M Kroeger 4r 5+3, S Katt 4r 4, S Walker 4r 3+1, B Werner 4r 10+1).
