Winter weather fails to dampen trip
Mo Hammond, lady captain at Falmouth Golf club, took over 30 ladies to St Enodoc Golf club for their spring away day last week.
Although the weather was a little damp a great time was had by all.
Playing on the Holywell course, 11 teams played a three-ball better ball etter Ball format with the winning team being Rose Bailey, Jenny Dunstan and Pat Richardson coming in with a score of 93 points. Second was Debbie Hunt, Mhairi Wilkinson and Josie Ogden with 91 pts and third Val Graham, Brenda Arch and Sheila Mongey with 88 pts.
Nearest the pin on the fifth hole was won by Brenda Arch, nearest the pin on the 16th hole was won by Pat Richardson. Longest drive (silver): Lena Holland; Bronze: 1, Josie Ogden and Bronze 2, Ann Stevenson. Twos were scored by Ann Nash, Brenda Arch and Lauren Hulston who received 15 balls each.
A busy Easter weekend began on Good Friday with a four-man team better ball competition with two scores to count.
Conditions were far from ideal with very strong winds buffeting the course. Despite this 13 teams entered the competition and the result was very close with only four teams managing to break par (72).
Grant Nicholls, Russell Weetch, Ben Short and Andy McKnight finished in first place with a very respectable 75 points.
Result: 1, Grant Nicholls, Russel Weetch, Ben Short, Andy McKnight, 75 points; 2, Todd Butler, Dan Phillips, Chris Ramsden, Lee Anderson, 74 points; 3, Dave Holland, Alan Bulpin, Steve Briers, Darren Horton, 74 points.
The Devenish qualifier took place at Falmouth Golf Club on Saturday with the top 16 going through to the knock-out rounds which are played throughout the summer.
Over 70 members entered the competition and those who thought Friday's weather was bad had a rude awakening when they stepped on to the first tee!
The old saying "Four Seasons in One Day" rang true because one minute the sun was shining the next it was raining then it was hailing, then there was the wind which at times must have been gusting to gale force!
Simon Hirst was the only person to equal par and considering the conditions this was an exceptional round of golf.
