Hard working former students were recognised at a presentation evening held at Helston Community College, during which they were encouraged to look to the future.

In an inspiring speech by assistant head teacher David McDonald, who is in charge of the sixth form, students who left the college in the summer following their A-levels were told to measure their success in the future by looking at the person they had become.

Mr McDonald said: "Success is not the destination we seek, it is the experience of the journey which is more important. Our future is not about possessions we gain or how successful we are in our chosen career, but our future is about who we are as person. The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief in yourself. Success is about meaning and purpose of life."

His words came a presentation evening in which the former sixth form students returned to receive their A-level certificates, with the most deserving students receiving awards.
