About this neighbourhood
St Leonards has a population of approximately 4,500. It is mainly urban and has a mix of elderly and young residents. The population continues to expand with the building of new houses and estates. A lot of community activity centres around the shops on Magdalen Road, which has a wide variety of retail outlets. Crime levels are low and the main problem in the area seems to be sporadic incidents of vandalism.
Newtown has a population of approximately 5,400. Again, it is urban and has a mix of young and elderly residents. Within Newtown lies Belmont Park and the community association hut located in the middle of it. These form the focus of nearly all of the community and social events that occur within the neighbourhood. There is also a brand new cinema and a night-club within Newtown. Crime is at a roughly average level for an area of this size and it is focused mainly on the commercial areas.
You may have also noticed an increased high profile police presence at certain times of the day in your area, which primarily are considered to be the busiest times of the day. We call these times ' RED TIMES' all police are aware of this commitment which is one of the reasons you may see more police than normal.
The neighbourhood policing team is made up of myself PCSO Unsworth and PCSO Rees. The team is supervised by Sergeant Matt Lazenby and is based at Heavitree Road Police Station
The force responsible for policing and crime prevention in this area is Devon & Cornwall Police.
