MUSICAL group ‘Forever In Blue Jeans’ delighted a full house last Wednesday at The Brewhouse Theatre, providing an entertaining journey of music and songs from the fifties through to the eighties.
Carol Gordon, Dominic Banks, Rachael Cantrill, and Paul Leno’s lilting vocal tones were in perfect unison when these singers launched into their dynamic opening number, a ‘Rock and Roll Medley,’ capturing the spirit of the early fifties era with the their sparkling rendition of, ‘At the Hop,’ and ‘Great Balls of Fire.’ Guitarist Bob Newman followed with a solo number that referenced the band’s given title, ‘Forever In Blue Jeans’ accompanied by the rest of the band.
Under the musical direction of keyboard player Paul Babington, the band of four musicians came into their own with their rhythmic version of instrumental theme tunes from past television series, including such favourites as ‘Match of the Day,’ and the Grand Prix piece taken from Fleetwood Mac’s composition, ‘The Chain.’ Variety was in abundance when the quartet romped their way through the opening of the second half as they paid tribute to songs from the ‘Silver Screen,’ belting out numbers from, Calamity Jane, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Oklahama and Rawhide in true country style with obvious relish.
The evening ended with these performers conjuring up the distinctive tones of Abba with an uncanny resemblance, as they blended their harmonies and melodies for famous songs such as ‘Dancing Queen,’ and ‘Mama Mia,’ creating an atmospheric finale, complete with audience participation.
