IT’S going to be murder during a weekend at The Hollow.

This is the title for Blake Drama as it presents its version of Agatha Christie’s classic, coming to the Bridgwater Arts Centre.

Set in the early 1950s, The Hollow is a classic country house murder mystery. The enduring popularity of Christie’s work is, in no small measure, due to its deceptive simplicity.

Below the surface there are layers of subtlety in both plot and character. In her gentle way she was not afraid to tackle difficult issues, hardly mentioned in her own era.

In The Hollow, events unfold from the lead character’s unwitting obsessions with social class, family, sex and marital abuse.

Being Christie, these subjects are always deliberately understated but are the same topics modern writers explore in grittier terms.

The Hollow runs from April 5 to 8 and tickets cost £8, available from Terry Kellow on 01278 455744, tsk44h@gmail.co.uk, or the arts centre on 01278 422700 or bridgwaterartscentre.co.uk.
