WATCHET is gearing up to celebrate a four hundred year old festival.
The Queen Caturn’s Celebration on November 28, dates back to 1630 when Queen Catherine of Braganza visited the town to buy material dyed in Watchet Blue for the livery of her Household.
She so enjoyed herself that she decreed there would be an annual feast with dancing, hot cakes and cider paid for by her household.
The Mediaeval market opens at 11 am and Caturn’s festivities begin at noon. There will be Christmas market stalls, games for children, puppet shows and the Queen and her entourage on horseback will arrive at 3pm to lead a procession round the town.
