THE music scene in Taunton is set to liven up thanks to a new music promotion venture in the area.

Fuelled By Cider is based in nearby Ilton and organises small festivals and music events as well as promoting nationally touring acts and smaller, local gigs.

Promoter Kevin Davis said: “Taunton is Somerset's largest town yet lacks a regular, cutting edge live music scene. There is a big appetite for live music in the town and a huge amount of local talent, and we want to help bring these things to life. We are excited about bringing different acts to the area while also supporting local artists to establish themselves.”

Fuelled By Cider's flagship event is the Outcider Festival, held in the Mendips in August. In just two years it has established an excellent reputation for the quality of music on offer and showcasing emerging local talent. Running through the festival, and indeed all of Fuelled By Cider's events, is a commitment to affordable pricing, supporting local businesses and above all a sense of fun.

Fuelled By Cider's opening event in the area is upcoming female punk star Lousie Distras, as part of her national tour, on Saturday October 10 at The Winchester Arms. Support comes from local band 51st State.

Following this is the Halloween Hooley night on October 31 at Norton Fitzwarren Village Hall. Featuring live music from Skimmity Hitchers and The Incas, plus dedicated children's entertainment, this is an event that all ages can enjoy.
