THERE are pirates telling tales, buskers from around the world and even the family dog can have his day at

Watchet Summertime.

Running from Sunday August 9 to Saturday August 15, there is a host of varied activities, events and gigs to enjoy.

The Pirates of St Piran sail into town singing, fighting and causing mayhem on the west end of The Esplanade from about 11 am on Sunday.

In the afternoon, the Watchet Companion Dog Show has lots of different classes for pooches of every type and the evening sees Martyn Babb and Friends singing Sea Shanties in The Boat Museum Shed from 7.30pm.

The rest of the week is equally busy and varied. On Monday, there is an intercultural busking on The Esplanade from 10am, while Tuesday sees an arts and crafts day at the same place.

There are two great walks in store with the West Somerset Mineral Line Association leading a walk up the Old Mineral Line to Washford, starting at Watchet Library at 11 am on Tuesday. The following day, Town Crier, David Milton will be telling tales about Old Watchet as he walks round the town.

Other highlights include Chris Jolley, The Storywalks Man, the Rev John Guttridge presenting an organ recital in St Decumans Church and, on Friday 14, a fancy dress competition on a pirate theme.

Add on live music, a hog roast and an art exhibition, and its clear there is something for everyone and every taste during this week long extravaganza.
