SOMERSET Film is inviting local people to be involved in creating a film about Somerset and its people, using Super 8 analogue techniques alongside digital editing skills.

In the 24-minute film, A Somerset Symphony, each minute depicts an hour in the life of the county and its people. Somerset Film will be working with the Echo Park Film Center from Los Angeles on the project which is part of The Sound We See, a growing global slow film movement.

First time filmmakers, amateurs and professionals are invited to take part in creating a celluloid portrait of the county.

Participants will work together over two weeks to devise, shoot and edit the film, with guidance from Echo Park Film Center.

Somerset Film are also working with Actiontrack Performance Company who are inviting local singers, vocalists and choirs to create a soundtrack for the film.

The project begins with an introductory meeting at Somerset Film’s home The Engine Room on Saturday, March 21, and will continue until April 11.

Activities are designed with flexibility to fit around work and family, taking about 12 hours over the two week period.

The film will premiere at the Museum of Somerset, Taunton on Saturday, April 25, and screened at venues around the county, online and at festivals nationally and internationally.

More information about how to take part is available on the Somerset Film website and from info@somersetfilm.com
