VARIOUS activities had taken place in January. The Bells had rung at Braemar Day Centre and at The Firs in Taunton, and it was reported that last year they raised £400 from performances and coffee mornings, £300 of which will be given to the Children’s Hospice.

The skittlers played Hemyock and won by 16 pins. The ramblers group, led by Linda Gower, enjoyed bright sunny weather for their walk from Ilminster along the cycle path and back over the fields.

Margaret Harper displayed and talked about her fused glass jewellery.

Dichroic glass displays two colours as it undergoes a colour change in different light conditions.

Patterns can be built up by putting fine layers or small pieces of differently coloured glass onto a base and each finished piece is unique.

Margaret sells her work at craft fairs and gives the proceeds to charity – her current charity is the Beacon cancer centre at Musgrove Park Hospital.

After her talk she did a brisk trade, with many members purchasing items of jewellery at reasonable prices.

A chat over tasty refreshments that Penny Gale, Angela Naylor and Rosie Viant provided completed the evening.

The March meeting will be replaced by the annual dinner, this year at the Candlelight Inn.
