A RECITAL by a highly regarded violin and cello duo will be the Minehead and West Somerset Arts Society’s first concert of 2015.

Tamsin Waley-Cohen (violin) and Bartholomew La Folette (cello) will play a selection of works written for or transcribed for the instruments by Bach, Ravel and Kodály.

The pair met more than ten years ago at IMS Prussia Cove and began playing together regularly in 2011.

They have since collaborated on a range of different chamber music projects.

Described by The Times as a violinist “who held us rapt in daring and undaunted performances” and by The Guardian as a performer of “fearless intensity”, Tamsin Waley-Cohen performs as a soloist with orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Swan, BBCCO, and London Chamber Orchestra, Budapest Philharmonic, Graz Kammerphilharmonie, and Chapelle Musicale de Tournai, under conductors including Andrew Litton, Jose Serebrier, Tamas Vasary, Shlomo Mintz and Nicolae Moldoveanu. She has played at the Cadogan, Queen Elizabeth and Barbican halls in London, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Bridgewater Hall Manchester, and in venues across the UK and abroad.

Bartholomew LaFollette studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and was a YCAT musician from 2007-11 and the first recipient of the Irish Chamber Orchestra's Ardan Award.

He was labelled "the most exciting young classical talent in Britain" after winning The Arts Club's and Decca Records' inaugural Classical Music Award in June 2013.

Bartholomew has given recitals at Wigmore Hall, Aldeburgh, and the Leeds International Concert series, among others, and appeared as a soloist with the City of London Sinfonia, together with performances at the Bridgewater and the Royal Festival Halls.

Tamsin and Bartholomew will perform at the Methodist Church, The Avenue, Minehead, at 2.30pm on January 11. Tickets are £12.50 (students £2) from The Regal box office on 01643-706430, or at the door on the day.
