CANTAMUS has put together a programme featuring the very best of more than 400 years of songwriting, which it will perform in Thorncombe next month.

It will open with E La Don Don, a jolly Catalan number first published in 1556, and end with the haunting Lux Aurumque by Eric Whitacre, an American composer who is still alive.

Along the way, Cantamus will visit 17th Century Germany – Quem Pastores by Praetorius, 19th Century Kentucky – the traditional Sing, All Men, and 20th Century France – Hymne à la Vierge by Villette.

Cantamus followers will be delighted by the inclusion of Morten Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium, suchahit at its concerts last Christmas.

Cantamus is now in its third year and is winning a loyal following as it develops under the baton of musical director Malcolm Knowles.

The concert is at St Mary’s Church on Saturday, December 13, at 6pm. Tickets are £8 and will Magic be available on the door
