A WALK on the Quantock Hills is a great way to spend your day, and next month hikers will be doing just that to raise funds for charity.
A Walk for Freedom is a sponsored walk being organised by Moon Bear Rescue, which aims to help raise funds for and awareness of the plight of Moon Bears in China.
The bears, knows as bile bears or battery bears, are kept in cages and ‘milked’ daily for their bile.
The bears are farmed across China with some of them imprisoned for as long as 30 years.
The bile is used in Chinese medicine, but these days it can be replaced by using herbal and synthetic alternatives.
The charity is asking people to sign up to the annual event where walkers will be required to trek either a 5½-mile or a ten-mile course.
Walk for Freedom will start from Spaxton village hall at 10:30am on Sunday, October 5.
