PEACEFUL photography evoking the “spiritual” experience of nature has gone on show at Burnham’s Princess Theatre and Arts Centre.
Poet, amateur photographer, theatre company founder and recovering alcoholic Lewis Coleman has captured a range of landscapes spanning shots of Burnham and Somerset but also Ben Nevis in Scotland and the Lake District.
Lewis told the Weekly News: “My photography is about capturing the feeling you get when you go into nature – that feeling of momentary beauty.”
He added: “I think creativity is important to me for my recovery, and it’s about living life, as much as anything. If there’s any message for other people who are in recovery, that’s it.”
Lewis, who received treatment at Burnham’s Somewhere House, a rehabilitation centre for individuals living with addiction, has been involved with a number of creative ventures involving recovering addicts, from setting up the Blue Sky Theatre and Arts company to editing ‘Looking In’, a collection of short stories and poems.
Lewis’s photographic show, part of the Princess’s cyclical public exhibition, is on for the next three weeks – drop in to view from 10am to 3pm, Tuesday to Saturday, with ‘meet the artist’ on Saturdays from noon until 3pm.
