ONE of vaudeville’s top international stars will be performing at a burlesque and cabaret event at the Blake Theatre, Bridgwater, next month.

Dubbed the ‘Queen of Burlesque’, Khandie Kisses has been voted one of the top 50 performers in the world four times in a row.

Khandie said: “Burlesque has enabled me to perform an age old form of entertainment with a modern twist and take it to the next level.

“It’s not just simply women in corsets – it’s men and women in all sorts of outfits and costumes. “Satire and wit are strong in burlesque, and it’s very much alive.”

The dancer, model and fire performer has graced stages throughout the UK, performing at British Science Festivals, Festival of Sins, and the Rock ’n Soul Festival, as well as in shows in Australian and Paris.

When not performing, Khandie, who used to work for the Royal Air Force, teaches the art of burlesque in workshops through her own school, Hidden Heart Academy in Buckinghamshire.

The event, organised by Shhh Burlesque in Bridgwater, will also feature Jayde Adams, a successful stand-up comedienne and cabaret artist.

Tickets for the show, which starts at 8pm on May 31, cost £12 and are available from www.shhh-burlesque.co.uk or on 07889-385396.
