With the nights drawing in, the warm atmosphere of a roomful of people enjoying beer and music is perhaps an inviting one – and on Wednesday, September 19, Penzance Folk Club will be welcoming its autumn guest, singer and concertina virtuoso Steve Turner.
The club said it was delighted to welcome back Steve, a favourite guest.
He offers one of the best, most authentic voices in the business, sophisticated musical arrangements and perhaps – if the audience is lucky – Steve will be bringing along one or more of his other instruments to keep his concertina company.
Those other instruments? The audience could be hearing cittern, mandolin, banjo… And although his mainstay is traditional folk, Steve’s repertoire also extends to Americana, musical hall – and even to Purcell arranged for concertina.
He is about to release his eighth album, Late Cut, featuring a range of guest artistes including Eliza Carthy.
Support spots from Club regulars will make this a full and interesting evening at the Bath Inn, Cornwall Terrace, at 8.30pm on Wednesday, September 19. Tickets £9 (£8 for members), available from CRBO 01726 879500, from ‘Welcome to Cornwall’ centres, or on the door.
