Gigspanner Big Band has built a sizeable reputation for dismantling traditional music and song and reshaping it in fascinating ways.
The band sees ex-Steeleye Span fiddle player Peter Knight playing with Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin, BBC Folk Award’s Best Duo.
Their appearances together as the Gigspanner Big Band are a rare and sought after affair, thanks to excellent performances.
It’s an eclectic mix of self-penned material and traditional music.
With a flick of a bow and a finely chosen chord or slip of a beat, the Gigspanner Big Band produces richly atmospheric arrangements.
The band is founded from world and folk-roots music but its arrangements spread and stretch the music.
In Peter’s own words, “there is nothing more exciting than finding yourself lost in a new layer of inspiring and spontaneous music.”
On Saturday August 11 the five piece lineup makes its Cornish debut at The Poly in Falmouth.
