The Third Policeman is surreal, there is simply no other way to describe it.

That’s not surprising really, considering the source material, but Miracle Theatre have taken a fine piece of literature and sculpted it into something that’s snappy, sharp, and funny, all slotted into two short hours.

Falling somewhere on a spectrum between police procedural and absurd philosophy, by way of an Irish country pub – and eternity – the show mixes witty humour and a smidgen of physical comedy. What more would you expect in a world where people can turn into things, and things take on the characteristics of people?

Miracle have created a marvellous set for travelling performances – Saturday’s in the stunning surrounds of nature at Carn Marth amphitheatre - stripping back to bare essentials with one door and its surrounds standing for the pub, the police station, eternity, and much more. And it’s not often you see so much bicycle action on a stage either, but then again they are the stars of the show.

Miracle have managed to create a show that is at once both hilarious and thoughtful, a perfect blend for a summer’s evening at an outside theatre.

The Third Policeman will be touring Cornwall through August, including shows at Enys Gardens and Trebah Amphitheatre and a performance at St Mawes with a showboat leaving from Falmouth, organised to coincide with Falmouth Week,
