The Cornwall premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic Cats will burst onto the stage at Newquay in October.

Newquay Stage Company present the show, which is currently enjoying phenomenal success on Broadway.

Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set among a larger-than-life junkyard playground and is alive with feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Gus, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.

The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year - the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, the wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.

The cast come from a variety of towns and villages all over Cornwall, bringing an array of talent, acting, dancing, and make-up, and the costumes are being made with techniques used for the West End show.

Cats will be at the Tretherras Academy in Newquay from October 25 to 28, with shows starting at 7.30pm, plus a 2.30pm matinee on October 28.
