The Jazz Giant, multi-instrumentalist Courtney Pine CBE, will play at Hall for Cornwall next month.
Courtney Pine is one of the pioneers of black British jazz music and was the first to make a major mark on the industry when his breakthrough album charted in the Top 40. Since then he has had many successes, winning at the BBC Jazz Awards, MOBOs, and receiving a Mercury Music Prize nomination.
He remains at the forefront of UK jazz with a contemporary jazz style that integrates elements of modern British sound, including drum n bass, UK garage, soul and hip hop, along with deep rooted influences from the Caribbean.
He returns to the tenor saxophone for the first time in a decade for his latest project, Black Notes From the Deep.
Featured in the project is the vocal talents of UK soul star Omar, whose 1992 hit single There’s Nothing Like This established a recognisable “signature” sound that has seen him collaborate with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Carleen Anderson and Angie Stone.
This special project brings together two of the UK’s finest talents in jazz and soul as they compose, record and perform original material together for the very first time.
Courtney Pine will appear at Hall For Cornwall on Wednesday, July 26, at 7.30pm. For more information and tickets visit hallforcornwall.co.uk.
