Blues legends Nine Below Zero, BBC Radio 2 folk award nominees O’Hooley and Tidow, and Chris Evans’ favourite West Country folk-pop duo Sound of the Sirens are the latest acts confirmed for Looe Music Festival.

Formed in South London in 1977, Nine Below Zero quickly developed a reputation as one of the best blues bands in the country. Their album Live at the Marquee captured their high-energy live show and secured them support slots on tours with The Who, The Kinks and Sting. A memorable appearance in the first episode of TV comedy The Young Ones, a 10th anniversary sell out UK tour and critical acclaim for their 2009 release It’s Never Too Late reinforce their reputation. Playing songs such Ridin’ on the L&N, Don’t Point Your Finger and Eleven Eleven, Nine Below Zero will take to the main stage on the beach on Sunday.

O’Hooley and Tidow were hailed by Mojo as "one of British folk’s mightiest combinations" and their latest album, Shadows, has earned the duo a place in the magazine's Top 10 Folk Albums of 2016, as well as their third successive BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nomination for Best Duo.

Championed by Chris Evans – who declared himself “blown away” when he heard them for the first time, Sound of the Sirens will take over the harbour marquee on Saturday. Familiar faces to Looe Music Festival visitors, Sound of the Sirens performed alongside U2 and Take That on TFI Friday last year and the duo’s debut album For All Our Sins has been met with impressive reviews and national airplay.

The bands join headliners The Jesus and Mary Chain, Lulu and Happy Mondays on the bill for the three day music event, which takes place from September 29 to October 1.

Also playing the festival this year are Cornwall-based Daytoner, who promise to blur the boundaries between a DJ set and live show when they perform on the BBC Music Introducing stage, and Kernuyck who will perform at the cutting edge of dark melodic rock.

Over 90 bands will be performing on five stages, with more names still to be revealed, and bands already announced include Happy Mondays, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Lulu, Cast, The Membranes, The Undertones, Reverend and the Makers, The Correspondents, Tankus the Henge, Uncle Frank, Holy Moly & the Crackers, Breaking Trad, 50 Year Storm, Mike Dennis, Oh Majester, Mr Tea and the Minions, Rose Kimberley, Dougie Burns and the Cadillacs.

Day tickets are £40, and early bird three-day tickets are currently £99 for adults, £30 for under 18s, with free entry for children under five, available from looemusic.co.uk
