This week's countdown to the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival features two more of the acts who will be appearing over the weekend.

Rum and Shrub Shantymen are a group of traditional singers from Cornwall with a worldwide reputation for lively singing of shanties, sea songs and folk songs. Performing together as a group since 1991, they take their name from a well-known local drink reputed to have been enjoyed by smugglers.

Over the years they have made many recordings, all of which have met with critical acclaim. Another Rum Ashore, released in August 2014, has been hailed as their best yet.

The group has performed at many events in Wales, Brittany, Germany and Ireland as well as enjoying a tour of the Eastern seaboard of the USA. They have also appeared at many major English festivals including all the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festivals and more recent ventures have included some memorable visits to the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, the Isles of Scilly Regatta, live participation in Children In Need and national TV advert work.

"We look forward to making new friends and hearing new songs wherever we go, and we very much hope that you enjoy our singing as much as we do," said the group.

Next up we focus on A Pair of Spinners and Bob. Hughie Jones and Mick Groves were with the famous Spinners Folk Group for over 30 years until the group disbanded. Hughie continued to sing and write his well known sea songs and has performed in Europe and the USA at clubs and festivals. He has five maritime CDs to his name.

Mick moved to Exeter and now sings mostly in the West Country. He also returns to Liverpool and performs at the Everyman Club. He has recorded two CDs on more general topics. Bob Conroy is from New York and is recognized as one of the world’s best long neck banjo players. He has sung for many years with the band Stout who perform at sea festivals, club and on TV, and have made many recordings. Bob has appeared at clubs and festivals in the UK and the rest of Europe and plays on three of Hughie’s CDs.

The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival will take place at various venues across the town from Friday, June 16 to Sunday the 18th. For up-to-date details of the weekend's programme, go to falmouthseashanty.co.uk.
