Location

The unique and scenic Lizard Peninsula is the most southerly point in mainland Britain, encompassing around 14sq miles. It is bordered by dramatic coastline, intimate coves and sandy beaches, which are best discovered by walking the incredible South-West Coastal Path. Perhaps the most famous of these is the much coveted Kynance Cove-described by the BBC as “one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the South West”.

The Lizard is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as being a SSSI site (Site of Specific Scientific Interest and is protected by English Nature). The peninsula is a haven for wildlife, brimming with fascinating history and rare geology. As well as the never-ending walks and hikes, kayaking, diving, snorkelling, coasteering, fishing and surfing are some other diverse potential activities for the more adventurous.

Lizard Village, caters for day to day requirements with amenities including; a post office, general store, doctor's surgery, Retallack's butchers, village inns (including the Witchball, originally built in the 15th Century is the most southerly pub in mainland Britain and the Top House), Coast Bistro (local seafood specials daily), cafes (including Polpeor, Wavecrest, Fat Jacks the Regent and Kynance Café on the beach), gift shops and Anne's famous pasty shop! Jumunjy Thai Culisine offers a free delivery service to addresses within the Lizard Village.

Traditional fishing communities such as the neighbouring Cadgwith bustle with activity day and night. Seasonally caught seafood is often available to buy directly from the boats or from the little fish market within the Cove.

Further facilities and amenities are available in neighbouring Mullion (5 miles by car) which include a brand new Co-op supermarket, Spar and other larger shops including a Boots pharmacy. Mullion also offers both gym, spa and swimming facilities within the newly renovated Mullion Cove Hotel and the Polurrian Hotel.

The ancient market town of Helston lies approximately 11 miles north of Providence House. Famous for its annual Furry Dance (or Flora Day festival) in May. Here you will find the large supermarket chains – Tesco, Lidl, Sainsburys, Helston Community Hospital and Minor Injuries Unit, Leisure Centre, Community College and Adult Education Centre as well as a pleasant bustling high street complete with cinema.
